A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
2004:Aberdeen Residents vote in Mandatory Membership as the only way “the Country Club will survive.” It was believed that without the Country Club, all the home values in the West would plummet. This was not a baseless fear at the time. Binks Country Club went bankrupt, the golf course an abandoned field of weeds. With that ugly picture in mind, the vote establishing Mandatory Membership passed. Aberdeen joined the trend in private country clubs to establish mandatory membership to sustain housing and Club values.
2010: Real Estate values take a beating in the recession. However, Aberdeen values spiral downward three years prior to the recession. Even in the recent recovery, housing values in the West continue downward. Encumbered by Mandatory Membership, homes sit on the market, selling only at deep discounts. Unable to sell, many homes are rented out, some abandoned. The promised value of Mandatory Membership has become a pipe dream.
A LITTLE BIT OF REALITY
An ordinary buyer is unlikely to buy in a Mandatory Membership community. The value of a home in Aberdeen is burdened by the decisions of the Board of Directors of the Country Club. As Country Club fees increase, as Mandatory Membership rules become more restrictive, home values continue to go down. Buyers are few and far between.
- Did you know: Homes in the East, with no mandatory membership, are selling fast.
- Did you know: Homes in the East are selling at profit over cost
- Did you know: The same is true of Bristol Lakes — the only Western community to buy its way out of the Mandatory Membership shackles.
Why? – NO MANDATORY MEMBERSHIP!
THE WAY OUT
NOW, ALL OF ABERDEEN HAS A SECOND CHANCE!
THERE WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO VOTE ABOLISH TO MANDATORY MEMBERSHIP THIS FALL.
The Country Club has stated, in writing that even with the defeat of Mandatory Membership members will not be allowed to leave the Club if they bought their home after 2004.
While this may—or may NOT—be true, MANDATORY MEMBERSHIP MUST FIRST BE OVERTURNED. WITHOUT A VOTE TO DEFEAT MANDATORY MEMBERSHIP, IT IS CERTAIN NONE OF US WILL EVER BE FREE OF ITS BURDEN!
Home values may rise and fall, but without Club Membership as an obligation, they will do so because of the “housing market,” not because of the consequences of Mandatory Membership.
